London 01 08 Trafalgar Square  [8 of 18]

Nelson's Column is in the centre of Trafalgar Square, surrounded by fountains and four huge bronze lions. The column is topped by a statue of Lord Nelson, the admiral who commanded the British Fleet at Trafalgar (1805), a British naval victory of the Napoleonic Wars. This is a favourite resting place, to feed the pigeons, and to climb on to the statues. On the north side of the square is the National Gallery.
